Birking_bag- so-black

This legendary bag was conceived when on an international flight in 1983, when actress Jane Birkin told Jean-Louis Dumas, the creative director of Hermès, that most leather bags were too unwieldy for her delicate sensibilities. Intrigued, Dumas sketched a more “boho” take on Hermes’ Haut à Courroies bag. That sketch turned out to be the first draft of one of the most iconic and sought-after handbags of all time.

The Birkin has gone through many iterations since that fateful day, each rarer and more valuable than the next. The current “So Black” version, featuring delicate black PVD-coated hardware, was designed by Jean Paul Gaultier in 2010.

The average value of Hermès Birkin bags has increased by 500% in the last 35 years. That’s 14% per year, which is huge. This particular model is from Hermès’ Himalaya collection and is often referred to as the holy grail of handbags.

The white Himalaya Birkin bag features 18-karat white gold hardware and sports more than 200 diamonds. Most recently, the 35-centimeter model sold for over half a million dollars in 2019. Professional sports betting consultant David Oancea, also known as Vegas Dave, made the record-breaking purchase.
